President's Message
Christopher N. Latreille, P.E.

Greetings! Thank you to all who attended the International Green Construction Code Presentation by Dorothy Harris. Attendees received valuable insight into how codes are proposed and updated and what we may expect in the future in terms of codified green requirements. Our industry is on the front lines of developing new technologies and methods of construction in an effort to meet the demands of sustainability. Over the years, we have seen increased emphasis on sustainability in the Design and Installation Awards submissions.

Speaking of awards, Nick Carparelli and Greg Novitzki have received a number of outstanding submittals. The deadline is February 3rd, so please send your entries by the end of the day on Friday. Over the next month, Greg and Nick will be in the process of coordinating the review and judging of the entries. If your project is selected as a finalist, you will be notified. However, gold, silver, and bronze awards will not be revealed until our banquet on April 4th. Please feel free to contact Nick or Greg if you have questions.

We conclude our program series with a presentation by Tony Johnson from the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI), titled Alternate Building Envelopes: Concrete Solutions for Low Rise Structures. Please join us for dinner at the DoubleTree Hotel on February 15th. I hope to see you all there!

Program Description:

A review of current efforts by the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute to provide building owners, developers and design professionals with cast-in-place concrete building envelope options for low-rise structures. First, the presentation will provide an overview of the market and highlight target building types.  The presentation will then review insulated concrete forms and tilt-up concrete as two building solution applications, while highlighting the benefits of the systems with a focus on energy efficiency, durability, and sustainability related issues. Through the analysis of a project case study, the concepts of site-cast pre-cast will be explored, a solution that offered a unique solution for the construction of a low-rise hotel complex with site-cast concrete.
